You need certain supplies to take your insulin. Medicare Part D covers syringes, needles, alcohol swabs, gauze, and inhaled insulin devices.
What will the supplies cost?
You will pay:
- Any coinsurance or copayment that your Medicare drug plan requires, and
- Your Part D deductible, if you still owe one.
What if I need an insulin pump?
Some people use an insulin pump to control their blood sugar instead of shots. Medicare Part B covers insulin pumps and the insulin used in them. If you need an insulin pump, your doctor has to prescribe one for you.
What will the pump cost?
After you have paid your annual Medicare Part B deductible, you pay only 20 % of the amount Medicare approves for the pump. This works the same as other supplies that Medicare Part B covers.
