About BenefitsCheckUp

The National Council on Aging developed and operates BenefitsCheckUp. Since June 2001, this free, confidential Web-based service has been helping seniors, their caregivers, and thousands of local community or government organizations find local, state, and federal programs that can help pay for prescription drugs, health costs, rent, heating bills, meals, and other needs. So far, millions of individuals have used the service.

BenefitsCheckUp's Extra Help feature helps people with Medicare who have limited incomes and resources to understand

  • Whether they qualify for extra help with their prescription costs through the Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage.
  • If they are likely eligible for additional programs that can save them money on their Medicare premiums, provide extra income, or find them additional prescription savings through existing state programs.

This feature also allows users to submit their applications for Extra Help electronically and receive immediate confirmation that the Social Security Administration received the application.

To use this feature or to do a more comprehensive benefits screening, visit www.BenefitsCheckUp.org.
