What are the basic options that my employer/union plan could give me?

The employer/union plan you have now can give you four basic options:

  • It could have a drug coverage plan that is as good as the Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage.
  • It could offer a "wrap-around" policy. That would add to the coverage you get from a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. The employer/union plan could pay all or part of the premium for a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. The employer/union "wrap-around" plan could cover drugs that the Medicare plan does not. It could help pay for the deductible or co-pays.
  • It could offer drug coverage that is not as good as the Medicare drug plan.

It could drop its drug coverage altogether. You would then be able to get your drug coverage from the Medicare Prescription Drug Coverage.
