Step 3: Choose Original or Medicare Advantage.

When you are eligible for Medicare, you can choose either Original Medicare or a private Medicare Advantage Plan.

Either way, Medicare will cover all the services you qualify for. But the two options might have different rules about:

• The doctors you can see
• The hospitals or other facilities you can go to
  
• How much you will pay

Think carefully about your choice. Make sure you understand:

• How each option gives you the care you need AND
  
• How much each will cost now AND
  
• How much each will cost if your health changes.

This way, you will have fewer surprises later. Remember, you pick how to get your Medicare benefits.
